Jide Kosoko announces Ogogo’s burial date as fans, colleagues mourn

The Nigerian film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who passed away at the age of 66. His remains are scheduled for burial in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, 2026. Ogogo's daughter, Kira, announced his death on Sunday after he battled stage-four cancer. Fellow actors, including Jide Kosoko and Saidi Balogun, have shared their grief and tributes. Kosoko confirmed the burial arrangements, stating that special prayers would be held at the Ilaro Pavilion at 11 a.m. on Monday. Ogogo had been open about his health struggles, previously revealing in an interview that he spent seven years battling a severe chronic ulcer. He described this period as one of the darkest chapters of his life, during which his health deteriorated significantly, impacting his ability to eat and perform religious duties. He expressed gratitude for the support he received, which helped him avoid selling his property for treatment. The actor, born on October 31, 1959, began his acting career in 1981 while working as an automobile mechanic. He left his job at the Water Corporation in 1994 to pursue acting full-time. His educational background includes Christ Church School in Ilaro for primary education and Gazikia College in Lagos for secondary education, followed by technical college studies.
