Jigawa governor signs orders to combat drug abuse, mobilize citizens

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has signed two executive orders aimed at combating drug abuse and institutionalizing mass mobilization for societal reorientation. The initiatives are described as a strategic investment in the state's youth and moral renewal.

The two Executive Orders directly address these commitments: one establishes a structured campaign against drug abuse by bringing prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, community mobilisation, and enforcement support under a coordinated framework. The other lends institutional strength to societal reorientation by promoting patriotism, honesty, discipline, respect for the law, civic responsibility, and service to the common good.

The newly established Jigawa State Task Force on Drug Abuse Control and the Mass Mobilisation for Social Reorientation initiative were signed at the Government House in Dutse. The event was attended by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mohammed Buba Marwa, alongside other government officials, traditional rulers, security agencies, and development partners.

Governor Namadi stated that these orders fulfill commitments from his administration's 12-Point Agenda. The drug abuse order creates a coordinated framework for prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and enforcement. The social reorientation order aims to promote patriotism, honesty, discipline, and civic responsibility.

Sustainable development requires more than projects and programmes; it also requires a positive civic culture, rooted in our traditions and the teachings of Islam, to guide citizens towards discipline, responsibility and the common good.

He highlighted recent social developments, particularly the aftermath of August 2024 protests, as underscoring the urgency of the initiative. The governor warned that youth empowerment without values could lead to misdirected energy, and values without opportunity could result in frustration. He stressed the importance of providing both opportunities and guidance rooted in discipline and service to the common good.

Youth empowerment without values can become misdirected energy; values without opportunity can become frustration. Our duty, therefore, is to provide both opportunities that open legitimate paths to progress and guidance that anchors ambition in discipline, service, productivity and peaceful coexistence.
