Jigawa police announce shooting drill, urge residents to stay calm

Residents of Tsohon Gari and nearby communities in Jigawa State have been advised not to be alarmed by planned shooting exercises. The Jigawa State Police Command announced that a routine shooting range exercise will take place on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range located in Tsohon Gari, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.

The Command wishes to inform the general public that all preparations have been made to conduct a shooting range exercise for its personnel tomorrow, Sunday, 2nd August, 2026, at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range, located at Tsohon Gari, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, stated that all arrangements are finalized for the exercise. He explained that this training is a standard component of the command's operational preparedness, designed to improve firearms handling, tactical proficiency, and overall combat readiness among police personnel. The goal is to enhance their capacity to effectively discharge their constitutional duties, including the protection of lives and property across the state.

The exercise forms part of the command’s routine operational training and firearms proficiency programme aimed at enhancing the capacity, professionalism, combat readiness, and operational effectiveness of police personnel.

The command specifically appealed to residents in the vicinity to remain calm and not panic when they hear gunshots. SP Adam assured the public that the firing will occur in a controlled and secure environment under strict supervision. To ensure public safety and the smooth execution of the training, members of the public are strongly advised to avoid the immediate area surrounding the shooting range throughout the duration of the exercise.

This measure is presented as a preventive step taken in the community's best interest, aiming to prevent unnecessary fear and ensure the training proceeds without disruption.
