Joaquín Díaz Mena Questions Survey on Investment Pessimism in Yucatán and Demands to Know Who Was Consulted

Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena is asking a direct question after a business survey suggested that entrepreneurs are losing confidence in investing in the state: who exactly was consulted?

Díaz Mena responded to comments from David Reyes Aguiar, president of COPARMEX Mérida, about alleged investor discouragement. The governor said the survey should specify which businesspeople reported that they lacked confidence in Yucatán.

He recalled that business organizations had been invited to see progress on the expansion of the Progreso High Port, one of the main projects associated with the Maya Renaissance. During those visits, Díaz Mena said, private-sector representatives appeared enthusiastic and agreed with the actions under way.

The governor also argued that people familiar with Yucatán know the conditions available for investment. He highlighted the flow of capital from abroad and said he could not reconcile that activity with the survey results presented by Reyes Aguiar.

Díaz Mena urged the COPARMEX leader to provide more clarity about the entrepreneurs who expressed concern. He said the business views he has heard directly show interest in the projects currently being developed across Yucatán, adding that he was surprised by the survey's conclusions.
