Johnny Depp made a striking return to major studio productions at the San Diego Comic-Con 2026, appearing unannounced as Ebenezer Scrooge to promote his upcoming film.

The actor surprised fans in the Gaslamp Quarter, fully costumed as the iconic Charles Dickens character, complete with period attire and detailed makeup. Depp engaged in a half-hour improvisation with attendees before heading to Hall H. There, he joined director Ti West to unveil the first official trailer for 'Ebenezer,' slated for a November 13, 2026 release.

This appearance marks Depp's significant return to large-scale Hollywood projects following a period away from the spotlight. The film 'Ebenezer' boasts a notable cast, including Ian McKellen, Daisy Ridley, Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, and Tramell Tillman.

Meanwhile, the San Diego Comic-Con itself solidified its future, confirming its commitment to remain in its traditional venue at the San Diego Convention Center until 2030. Mayor Todd Gloria announced the renewed agreement, putting an end to rumors about a potential relocation to Los Angeles or other cities. The convention, which began in 1970, continues to be a major cultural event, drawing over 120,000 attendees and featuring a diverse program that includes K-pop group ENHYPEN and panels with the cast of 'Twilight.'
