Johnson Smith to promote Jamaica at 26th Investment and Trade Fair in China

Jamaica’s Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, will represent the country at the 26th China International Fair for Investment and Trade in Xiamen from September 8 to 11.

The fair brings together government officials, businesses, financial institutions and investment agencies. This year’s event will focus on international investment cooperation, cross-border promotion and business matchmaking, with participants from more than 123 countries.

She said Jamaica would use the event to deepen commercial relationships, identify potential markets, expand the reach of its exporters and promote the country as an investment destination. The fair is hosted by China’s Ministry of Commerce, together with six international organizations, including UNCTAD, UNIDO, the WTO, the OECD, the World Bank’s IFC and WAIPA.

The ministry said the participation forms part of Jamaica’s wider economic diplomacy agenda. The event is intended to connect Jamaican goods and services providers with potential partners and draw attention to the country’s investment opportunities.

Johnson Smith will also speak at the eighth Silk Road Maritime International Cooperation Forum. The forum will examine maritime connectivity, ports, shipping, logistics and trade, giving Jamaica an opportunity to present its progress in port expansion, logistics and maritime development to potential investors.
