Joho Farmers Showcase Sweet Lavender Melons at Community Gathering

A young farmer in Joho village is using a greenhouse to grow two melon varieties and encourage more young people to see farming as a viable path. Irfan Tri Kusuma of Pamenang Farm introduced Sweet Lavender and Golden Aroma at a community gathering in Klaten’s Prambanan district on Wednesday, September 3.

The project attracted Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo, who visited the greenhouse with Fahrani Hamenang, chair of the Klaten Family Welfare Movement. The regent picked melons at the farm, which stands near the event site, and praised Joho residents for developing local agricultural potential.

“Thank you. Joho is extraordinary. Food security is already moving and developing. There is corn, fruit and protein. Hopefully it will continue to grow. This can become an example for other villages,” Hamenang said.

Irfan said the farm grows Sweet Lavender and Golden Aroma to show young people that they should not be ashamed to work in agriculture. He described Sweet Lavender as crunchier and Golden Aroma as softer, with flavors that differ from ordinary melons.

The cultivation has been running for two months. Irfan chose a greenhouse because it protects the crop from pests, and the first harvest has now taken place. The farm plans to offer melon-picking tourism in Joho at 35,000 rupiah per kilogram, selling any remaining fruit to wholesalers. The gathering also included a joint corn harvest, assistance distribution, a community dialogue and various Klaten government services.
