Jokowi's formal joining of PSI discussed by party official

Ahmad Ali, the daily chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), has spoken about the planned ceremony to present President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, with the party's jacket. Ali clarified that the jacket presentation is primarily a ceremonial act, but emphasized that Jokowi is already an integral part of PSI, even before this formal step.

The jacket presentation or whatever its name is, is a form of ceremony. But actually, if we follow the sequence of President Jokowi's statements about PSI, I think it is a form of statement that should be interpreted as whether Mr. Jokowi is PSI or not.

Ali pointed to Jokowi's statements at PSI's congress in Solo and national working meeting in Makassar, where the president pledged to actively assist the party down to the sub-district level. "In other words, implicitly, he already is, in my opinion, today he is PSI," Ali stated, suggesting Jokowi's commitment transcends a mere symbolic gesture.

Regarding criticism of Jokowi's recent political tours across various regions, Ali defended the president's actions. He likened these tours to similar activities undertaken by other prominent political figures like Megawati Soekarnoputri, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and himself. Ali described such journeys as a standard practice within the political landscape, dismissing the criticism as an attempt by certain individuals to sensationalize normal political engagement.

Earlier, Grace Natalie, the Deputy Chairperson of PSI's Supervisory Board, had announced that Jokowi would soon officially don the PSI jacket as the party's Chairman of the Supervisory Board. Natalie mentioned that PSI is accelerating the completion of its organizational structure, down to the village and neighborhood levels across Indonesia, in preparation for party verification. This organizational push is intended to ensure the party can function effectively once Jokowi formally takes on his leadership role.
