Jordanian Foreign Minister Safadi in Vienna: “It is high time to intervene in the Middle East conflict”

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi arrived in Vienna with a stark message: “It is high time to intervene in the Middle East conflict.” His country has come under repeated Iranian missile and drone attacks, yet anger over those strikes appears to be receding as tensions rise in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Safadi discussed the situation at the Bruno Kreisky Forum in Vienna with Gudrun Harrer, a Middle East expert and longtime journalist for Der Standard. The event took place during another dangerous phase in the confrontation involving Iran and the United States.

Since the beginning of the war involving Iran, Tehran has attacked Jordan at least 300 times with missiles and drones, according to the report. Most of the attacks targeted U.S. military bases. The latest strike mentioned came on Tuesday.

Jordan activated its air defenses again as a new round of escalation between Iran and the United States began to take shape over the weekend. The attacks have placed Jordan, located farther west, directly in the path of the regional confrontation, while the situation in the West Bank has added another source of tension for the country.
