Jordy Caicedo returns from suspension to score for Huracán

Jordy Caicedo returned from a two-match suspension and immediately put his mark on Huracán’s 1-1 draw against Belgrano in Córdoba. The Ecuadorian striker scored the equalizer late in the match, although an earlier effort had been ruled out for offside.

Belgrano took the lead in the 61st minute through Nicolás “Uvita” Fernández. Huracán responded in the closing stages. In the 84th minute, Óscar Cortés broke into the area from the left and played the ball toward César Ibáñez. The midfielder crossed, and Caicedo arrived to send the ball into the net.

His first goal did not count. After a lofted pass between the lines and a defender’s failed headed clearance, Caicedo controlled the ball, turned and struck toward the far post. He got back to his feet after the move, but the assistant referee’s flag had already gone up.

The goal took Caicedo’s total for Huracán in 2026 to 12, including four in the current Argentine Clausura. He scored eight in the Apertura and finished as the tournament’s second-highest scorer, two goals behind Gabriel Ávalos.

Huracán sits ninth in Group B with 10 points after two wins, two defeats and four draws. Caicedo joined the club in January after his latest spell with Spain’s Sporting Gijón. Atlas loaned him to Huracán with an option to buy at the end of the season. His 12 goals make him the Ecuadorian player with the most goals in a single calendar season in Argentina, surpassing Jaime Ayoví’s previous nine-goal mark for Godoy Cruz. Ayoví still holds the overall Ecuadorian scoring record in Argentina, with 27 goals.
