Journal de Genève Marks 200 Years with Iconic Front Pages

Le Temps is commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Journal de Genève, a publication it considers its predecessor. The newspaper is marking this bicentennial by highlighting significant front pages that contributed to the Journal de Genève's enduring legacy and identity.

The celebration underscores the historical importance of the Journal de Genève, which was founded on January 5, 1826. At a time when the press in French-speaking Switzerland was modest, the Journal de Genève emerged as a key publication. It later became one of the few newspapers to achieve supra-cantonal and even international distribution, alongside the Vaudois daily "ami-ennemi."

These influential front pages were recently featured in an exhibition during the Journées photographiques de Bienne in May 2025. The focus on visual presentation, headlines, and graphic design emphasizes how the Journal de Genève captured the public's attention and made its mark on history, particularly during exceptional events.
