Juan Pari’s luxury lifestyle: Cars, property, businesses and private flights tied to Bs 37.6 million embezzlement

Juan Franz Pari did more than divert Bs 37.6 million from Banco Unión, according to evidence gathered during the investigation. Some of the money was allegedly transformed into luxury cars, property, businesses and an ostentatious lifestyle that he openly displayed on social media.

In 2017, Pari recorded a video with his Argentine girlfriend, Luciana R. C., at a car dealership. He proudly presented a Mercedes-Benz and said he had designed it especially for her. “I designed the grille, the engine cooling fans,” he said in the recording, while explaining the vehicle’s features and indicating that the documents would be placed in his girlfriend’s name.

As he drove the car through La Paz’s southern district, Pari asked Luciana how it felt to own such a vehicle. She called it “an excess” and said it “looks like a private plane.” Investigators said at the time that only three examples of the model existed in South America. One was in Bolivia, and it was reportedly the car Pari gave to his girlfriend.

After the embezzlement became known, prosecutors began seizing assets they attributed to Pari and people around him. In October 2017, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced the seizure of another Mercedes-Benz registered to his wife, Carolina J. Prosecutor Herlan Almanza said the seizure brought the number of luxury vehicles linked to Pari to 16.

The case file also documented real estate and Pari’s involvement in several businesses. Testimony from an accounting assistant who worked for him helped investigators reconstruct part of the money trail, which also allegedly financed a nightclub and trips on private aircraft. Pari was ultimately sentenced to 22 years and six months in prison.
