Judge Adrián González Charvay to handle AFA property case amid controversy

Federal Judge Adrián González Charvay will now lead the investigation into a property in Pilar allegedly linked to the Argentine Football Association (AFA), a decision made by the Court of Cassation that has sparked controversy.

The Court of Cassation, through judges Diego Barroetaveña and Mariano Borinsky, ruled that the case should be handled by González Charvay's Federal Court in Campana. This decision goes against the previous assignment by the Criminal Economic Court and the recommendations of all prosecutors involved so far. The case will proceed to the San Martín Chamber as a procedural step.

González Charvay, known for his tough stance on drug trafficking, vied for control of the case, which primarily implicates Pablo Toviggino, the AFA's treasurer and close associate of AFA President Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia. The property in Pilar, described as a luxurious estate with a stud farm and a collection of high-end cars, is reportedly owned by individuals acting as fronts for Toviggino.

Adding complexity, the investigation now encompasses TourProdEnter, a company linked to Javier Faroni. This company collects AFA's global revenues, taking a 30% commission, and is suspected of being part of the financial scheme behind the Pilar property. González Charvay also sought to retain another AFA-related case originating from Santiago del Estero, where a prosecutor requested the detention of Tapia and Toviggino over alleged multimillion-dollar financial movements within a network of companies connected to Toviggino.
