Judge’s son detained and accused of taking part in safe robbery

Matías Grammatico, the son of a San Martín judge, was detained after prosecutors accused him of participating in the robbery of a safe containing a large amount of cash and cheques from an accounting firm.

Prosecutor Fabiana Ruiz had sought his arrest along with that of Sergio Fabián Weber. Investigators believe the two men did not act alone and say four other suspected accomplices remain at large. Weber was jailed, while Grammatico had previously been charged and linked to the case after an earlier detention request was rejected.

Ruiz continued gathering evidence and requested a forensic image analysis of security-camera footage. The study, carried out by City Police experts, concluded that the person shown near the targeted building was the judge’s son. The prosecutor then asked Judge Mariano González to order Grammatico’s arrest.

Police searched his apartment but did not find him. He later went to a police station in San Martín and was taken into custody after officers pursuing him had narrowed the search.

Investigators say the robbery took place on May 4 between 2 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. The suspects allegedly arrived in a black Peugeot 208 and a dark Peugeot 301. Security footage reportedly showed that they used a key to enter the building, then used two signal jammers to disable its security systems before reaching the accounting firm on the top floor and taking the safe.
