JUST IN: PDP loses rep member to APM

Aliyu Misau, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Misau/Dambam Federal Constituency, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). This move follows closely after four other members from the Bauchi State caucus, also elected under the PDP, switched to the APM.

Misau conveyed his decision in a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas. He stated that the protracted leadership crisis within the PDP made it impossible for him to continue effectively representing his constituents and contributing to their development.

This defection is seen as part of a broader political realignment in Bauchi State, particularly after the recent departure of the state Governor, Bala Mohammed, from the PDP to the APM. Since the governor's move, numerous political figures and party loyalists in the state have either joined the APM or indicated their intention to do so.

Political observers had anticipated that federal lawmakers aligned with the governor would eventually follow suit, given his significant influence over the state's political landscape and the growing uncertainty surrounding the PDP's internal cohesion. Misau's departure further diminishes the PDP's numerical strength in the House of Representatives.

The PDP has been grappling with internal divisions for months, with disputes over the party's direction, control of its structures, and preparations for future elections fueling tensions. This latest development underscores the challenges the party faces in maintaining unity ahead of upcoming political contests, while the APM continues to consolidate its influence in Bauchi State.
