Justice Ministry cancels Yoon's lawyer license over confirmed prison sentence

South Korea's Ministry of Justice has ordered the cancellation of former President Yoon Suk-yeol's lawyer registration, citing his confirmed prison sentence. The Korean Bar Association completed the cancellation process on July 28.

The Ministry of Justice stated that Yoon's conviction for obstructing the execution of an arrest warrant, for which he received a seven-year prison sentence, disqualifies him from practicing law. Justice Minister Cho Sung-tae emphasized the ministry's commitment to upholding legal ethics and order.

The Ministry of Justice ordered the cancellation of former President Yoon Suk-yeol's lawyer registration, and the process was completed yesterday.

Yoon was convicted of charges including using presidential security officials to obstruct the arrest and search warrants issued by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO). The Supreme Court confirmed his seven-year sentence on July 9. Under the Attorneys-at-Law Act, individuals with a confirmed prison sentence must wait five years after the sentence is completed or waived before they can reapply for lawyer registration.
