JUTC passenger experiencing breathing difficulties pronounced dead at hospital

A passenger traveling on a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus route from Mandeville to Kingston on Monday, July 21, 2026, died after experiencing severe breathing difficulties. The incident occurred aboard Route 512.

Upon receiving the report, the driver immediately assessed the situation and, prioritising the passenger’s wellbeing, diverted the bus toward the nearest hospital to seek urgent medical assistance.

According to a JUTC statement, another passenger alerted the driver to the commuter's distress. Prioritizing the passenger's well-being, the driver immediately diverted the bus towards the nearest hospital to seek urgent medical assistance. En route, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) intercepted the bus and assisted with the emergency response, facilitating the passenger's transfer to the medical facility.

Despite the prompt actions by the JUTC driver and the responding police officers, medical personnel later pronounced the passenger dead. The JUTC commended the professionalism and quick response of its driver, as well as the assistance provided by the JCF during the unfortunate event.
