The K League Players' Association has voiced strong support for adopting global heat protocols, emphasizing the need for mandatory "cut-off" regulations that allow for immediate game cancellation or postponement during heatwaves. They cite the recent FIFA World Cup's "hydration breaks" as a step, but argue that more robust measures are essential for player protection in an era of climate change.

While the K League has existing regulations, including adjusted match times, cooling breaks, and pitch watering, a recent incident where a spectator collapsed from heatstroke at a match has prompted the league to bolster its safety measures. The league is collaborating with clubs to ensure spectator safety and rapid response to heat-related illnesses, prioritizing the well-being of all involved.

FIFA and FIFPRO are intensely discussing the establishment of a heatwave protocol, which is an essential survival regulation that the football community must adopt in the era of abnormal climate.
