K-pop powerhouse BTS say they will not submit music for 2027 Grammys

Global music sensation BTS will not be submitting their music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, the group announced in a coordinated message.

The septet's decision comes just over a month after the Recording Academy introduced five new categories, including an award for best Asian pop music performance. This new category has drawn criticism from fans who view it as creating a racialized barrier for Asian artists.

"We hope our music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language," the members stated in their message. "We thank Army and everyone who has always stood by us."

BTS has been nominated for five Grammy Awards in the past but has never won. Their return to the music scene in March followed a nearly four-year hiatus for members to complete South Korea's mandatory military service. Their fifth studio album, ARIRANG, was released to critical acclaim.
