K-pop star G-Dragon appointed ambassador for UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan

Global music icon G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, has been appointed as an ambassador for the upcoming 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. The committee meeting is scheduled to take place in Busan from June 19 to 29, marking the first time South Korea hosts this significant international gathering.

The Cultural Heritage Administration selected G-Dragon for his extensive global influence in arts and culture, as well as his commitment to social causes through his foundation, "Justice Peace." The administration believes his artistic reach makes him an ideal partner to convey the importance of the World Heritage Committee's mission to a worldwide audience.

Through his foundation, established in 2020 with a focus on "justice" and "peace," G-Dragon has been involved in various public service initiatives, including programs for the recovery of firefighters and mental health projects. As an ambassador, he will collaborate with his foundation to launch the "Heritage in Peace" campaign starting June 10. This campaign aims to encourage individuals and corporations to contribute donations towards the protection of world heritage sites.

G-Dragon expressed his desire to spread messages of peace and participation, encouraging global solidarity in safeguarding shared human heritage. The funds raised through the "Heritage in Peace" campaign will be channeled into the World Heritage Fund, supporting conservation efforts for sites endangered by conflict, climate crises, and natural disasters. This initiative underscores a commitment to preserving cultural and natural treasures for future generations.
