Kaduna, Delta States Lead Nigeria in Governance Performance Index

Kaduna and Delta states have been ranked as the best-governed in Nigeria, according to the 2025 Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS) Governance Performance Index. Kaduna State achieved the top position with 73%, followed by Delta State at 70%. The report highlighted their performance in governance, infrastructure development, public service delivery, and overall management of state affairs. The statement from Delta State's governor's office emphasized the growing recognition of Governor Oborevwori’s administration for its achievements. Delta State's second-place ranking places it ahead of 34 other states. Anambra State ranked third with 65.5%, followed by Niger State at 65.1%. Ekiti State secured fifth place with 64.5%, while Akwa Ibom and Lagos States both scored 64%. Oyo State came in eighth with 61%, and Enugu State followed with 56.5%. Borno State completed the top ten with 54%. The report also noted that Kwara, Abia, Ondo, Nasarawa, Osun, Ogun, Kano, Kogi, Edo, and Jigawa occupied positions 11 to 20. Conversely, Taraba State ranked last among the 36 states with a governance score of 20%, with Yobe, Benue, Rivers, Plateau, and Kebbi also listed as lower performers. The strong showing by Delta State is expected to bolster public confidence in the Oborevwori administration's MORE agenda, which has driven investments in roads, bridges, healthcare, and education. The CIAPS stated that the Governance Performance Index serves as a benchmark for evaluating state government effectiveness and promoting accountability, transparency, and sustainable development.
