Kaduna govt invests over N1bn on scholarships in three years

Kaduna State's government has allocated over N1 billion to scholarships, student loans, and educational support programs in the last three years, aiming to boost higher education access and ease financial burdens for students. Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, emphasized education as a cornerstone of Governor Uba Sani’s human capital development agenda.

The administration's interventions include a 50% tuition fee reduction in state-owned tertiary institutions. Significant funds have been disbursed for overseas scholarships, supporting 42 students in fields like medicine and cybersecurity, and N425.52 million for local scholarships to indigent students. Additionally, N105 million has been committed to the student loan scheme, and N27.25 million to support law graduates' Nigerian Law School registration fees.

Yahaya Saleh Ibrahim, Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board, noted that the scholarship program has benefited over 21,106 students across more than 40 institutions. He highlighted Kaduna State's pioneering role in Nigeria by offering both scholarships and student loans, transforming educational support and expanding opportunities for young people. The state aims to become a national model in educational support, fostering a skilled workforce for innovation and sustainable development.
