Kaduna: Police bust kidnap ring, recover 10 firearms, fake currency, 410 rustled cattle

Kaduna State police have intensified their crackdown on criminal activities, arresting 16 suspected kidnappers and recovering 10 firearms in the past two weeks. The state's Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, announced the successes on Tuesday, highlighting a broader operation that also targeted gunrunners and a counterfeit currency syndicate.

The police said investigations led to the arrest of Abdullahi Muhammad, 55, and Danbala Jibrin, 57, both of the same village, who were allegedly connected to the counterfeit currency network.

The police command seized a substantial amount of illicit goods, including 170 counterfeit U.S. dollar notes, 190 solar inverters, a stolen vehicle, 83 parcels of suspected hard drugs, 32 stolen mobile phones, two plasma televisions, and 410 cattle. The operation also led to the arrest of three suspected gunrunners in Plateau State, who allegedly confessed to supplying arms to bandits.

According to the police commissioner, the operations also led to the recovery of 170 counterfeit U.S. dollar notes, 190 solar inverters, one stolen vehicle, 83 parcels of suspected hard drugs, 32 stolen mobile phones, two plasma television sets, 410 cattle, and other exhibits.

Further investigations into kidnapping incidents resulted in the arrest of Abdullahi Mohammed, known as “Aala,” who is accused of masterminding kidnappings in Kaduna and neighboring Kano State. Police recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition from him. Additionally, a stolen vehicle and 80 cattle, allegedly rustled from a local village, were recovered after a gun battle with suspects. Two livestock owners sustained gunshot wounds during the incident and are receiving medical attention.
