Kalutara gunman arrested

Authorities have apprehended the primary suspect and an accomplice in the fatal shooting of a businessman in Kalutara, Sri Lanka. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Pakir Mohamed Mohamed Saffiq, was allegedly targeted and killed for providing information to the police.

The incident occurred on June 28 in the Wattumakada area. While returning home after religious observances, Saffiq was intercepted by a vehicle that blocked his motorcycle. Individuals inside the vehicle then opened fire on him with a T-56 firearm before fleeing the scene.

Investigations revealed that the second arrested suspect provided shelter to the individuals responsible for carrying out the assassination. Both suspects were taken into custody near the sports ground on Club Mawatha in Kalutara town.

During the arrest of the main suspect, police seized ice drugs. The motive for the killing is believed to stem from the victim's alleged role as an informant for the police, highlighting a dangerous intersection of crime and law enforcement in the region.
