Kalymnos mayor questions repeated fires in Vlychadia area

Kalymnos Mayor Yiannis Mastrokoukos has voiced significant concern over a recent fire in the Vlychadia area, which marks the fourth time a blaze has occurred in the same location this year. The repeated incidents have led the mayor to suggest that "something is not right," hinting at potential underlying issues.

Fortunately, the reaction was immediate and we managed to contain it.

The fire, which broke out behind the church of Osia Xeni, was quickly brought under control by emergency services. Mastrokoukos praised the immediate response, stating that the fire was contained before it could escalate into a larger problem. The area is primarily covered in scrubland, but a nearby settlement features dense vegetation, including olive, almond, and fig trees, posing a significant risk if fires were to spread.

Due to the potential threat to inhabited areas, the emergency number 112 was activated to ensure timely notification of residents. The swift action of the fire department and the mayor's proactive approach were crucial in preventing the fire from reaching homes and causing more extensive damage.
