Kano commits N996bn to 1,557 projects in three years

The Kano State Government has allocated N996.29 billion towards 1,557 projects across its 44 local government areas over the last three years, according to Nura Maaji Sumaila, the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation.

Sumaila disclosed this on Sunday during an international press briefing detailing project implementation and financial performance. The data indicates that 867 projects, representing 55.68% of the total, have been completed. An additional 654 projects, or 42%, are currently ongoing, with 26 projects at the award stage and 10 more planned and ready for award.

The ministry's records show that N695.20 billion has received Certificates of No Objection approvals, and payment certificates worth N444.75 billion have been vetted. These approvals represent 69.78% of the cumulative contract value, while vetted payments account for 44.64%.

Projects are distributed across both metropolitan and rural areas. The eight metropolitan local government areas host 598 projects valued at N299.36 billion. Meanwhile, 653 projects worth N287.90 billion are located in the 36 rural local government areas, underscoring the administration's focus on rural development.

Among the major investments are a N113.19 billion mass housing project, a N24.77 billion road expansion project, and a N21.90 billion infrastructure project for modern cities. Other significant projects include the N27.74 billion Madobi-Yako-Kafin Maiyaki/Kiru Road project and a N22 billion rural model city housing project. The ministry continues to monitor projects to ensure value for money.
