Kano Governor Defends Land Allocations as Key to Reducing Housing Deficit

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has defended his administration's recent allocation of land plots, asserting that the initiative is designed to tackle the housing deficit, foster wealth creation, and establish a stronger future for families.

The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, distributed title documents for 1,540 plots to Senior Special Assistants, Senior Special Reporters, Special Assistants, Special Reporters, and Personal Assistants. This distribution took place at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, under the supervision of the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning.

The governor emphasized that his administration measures leadership not by promises made, but by promises kept, highlighting the fulfillment of commitments to the beneficiaries. He urged those who received plots to act as ambassadors for his administration by educating the public about the government's ongoing programs and projects.

Alhaji Abduljabar Umar, the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, noted that the number of plots allocated under Governor Yusuf surpasses those distributed by previous administrations. He advised beneficiaries against selling their plots, encouraging them to retain them for future use. Some recipients expressed gratitude and pledged their support for the governor's re-election in 2027. However, the decision to allocate plots, particularly to leaders of the All Progressives Congress Polling Unit Supporters Association, had previously drawn criticism, with residents describing it as a bribe in anticipation of the general elections.
