Kano Governor Names Deputy as Running Mate for 2027 Election

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has officially nominated his current deputy, Murtala Garo, to serve as his running mate in the upcoming 2027 governorship election. The declaration was formally communicated in a statement released on Monday by Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity for the Government House.

Mr Garo’s loyalty, competence and commitment to the development of the state since assuming office as deputy governor.

The decision was revealed during a significant strategic meeting held at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, attended by federal political appointees serving under President Bola Tinubu. Governor Yusuf emphasized that the selection of Mr. Garo was rooted in his deputy's unwavering loyalty, demonstrated competence, and steadfast commitment to advancing the development of Kano State since they both assumed office.

Governor Yusuf lauded Mr. Garo as a reliable partner, highlighting his consistent display of capability and a strong sense of duty. He expressed considerable satisfaction with their collaborative working relationship, noting that Mr. Garo's contributions have been instrumental in bolstering the administration's efforts to deliver tangible development projects and enhance the overall welfare of Kano State's residents. The governor also extended a vote of confidence in his deputy.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Governor Yusuf urged party leaders, political appointees, and supporters to maintain unity and dedication as the administration works to consolidate its achievements. Notably, Governor Yusuf, who initially won the governorship in 2023 under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and is now seeking re-election as the APC candidate.
