Kano governor urges Muslims to uphold the Prophet’s teachings during Maulud

Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged Muslims to carry the values celebrated during Takutaha Maulud into their daily lives, especially peace, compassion, justice and tolerance.

Yusuf issued the appeal through his spokesman, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, as Muslims in Kano marked the traditional event commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad. He described Takutaha as part of Kano’s religious and cultural heritage and said it had continued to unite residents across generations.

Takutaha remains an important part of Kano’s rich Islamic heritage. For generations, our people have remained committed to preserving the religious and cultural practices associated with the Maulud celebration.

The governor asked Muslims to strengthen peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding, saying those values were important to the state’s stability and development. He also called on residents to preserve the unity and brotherhood displayed during the celebration and to use religious occasions to build stronger community relationships.

I urge Muslims across the state to renew their commitment to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), particularly his messages of peace, compassion, tolerance, justice and peaceful coexistence.

Yusuf praised traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, community leaders and event organisers for preserving the celebration. He said his administration would continue supporting initiatives that promote Kano’s history, culture and religious values.

He also placed responsibility on younger residents to learn about and protect the heritage passed down by previous generations. Yusuf ended his message by wishing Kano residents a peaceful and successful Takutaha celebration and praying for continued peace, stability and prosperity in the state.
