Kano NDC unveils Kwankwaso’s son as running mate

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced its gubernatorial ticket for the 2027 election in Kano State, with Aminu Gwarzo selecting Mustapha Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate.

The Kano State leadership of the party initially nominated Hon Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and presented his name to the governorship candidate.

Mustapha Kwankwaso, the son of NDC national leader and vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso, brings experience from his previous role as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Kano State. The announcement was made during a consultative meeting with party stakeholders at the residence of Rabiu Kwankwaso in Kano.

After a series of consultations and careful consideration, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo approved the choice and adopted him as his running mate.

The party's selection process involved nominations from the state chapter, followed by extensive consultations by the governorship candidate, Aminu Gwarzo. According to a statement from Gwarzo's spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, the decision was a strategic move to enhance the party's commitment to inclusive governance, youth empowerment, economic growth, and effective service delivery.

The choice was not made in isolation. It was the outcome of broad consultations and a careful assessment of the qualities required to complement the governorship candidate and advance the party’s vision for Kano State.

Gwarzo expressed confidence in his running mate's ability to contribute to the administration's agenda, citing Mustapha Kwankwaso's experience, leadership qualities, and grassroots appeal as key assets for the ticket. The NDC believes the Gwarzo-Kwankwaso pairing combines competence, experience, and commitment to address the challenges facing Kano State.
