Kano varsity debunks Sanusi carry-over claim

Northwest University Kano has officially refuted viral social media claims suggesting that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, attended a lecture at the institution to clear an academic carry-over. The university issued a disclaimer on its Facebook page on August 10, 2026, through its Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim.

The Management of Northwest University Kano (NWUK) has observed with concern a viral video clip of His Highness, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, PhD, CON, after attending a public lecture of International Humanitarian Law Society.

The university clarified that a video circulating online showed Sanusi attending a public lecture organized by the International Humanitarian Law Society at Northwest University Kano. However, some social media users appended captions to the video, falsely alleging that the Emir had a carry-over and visited the university to resolve this academic deficiency.

It was an event held at Northwest University, Kano, which someone posted; while others added write-ups circulating on various social media platforms, falsely claiming that the Emir of Kano has a carry-over and that he approached the University to clear him of the alleged academic deficiency.

Northwest University Kano categorically described the claim as false, baseless, and misleading, urging the public to disregard such reports. The institution distanced itself from the video and accompanying narratives, stating they do not represent the university's position. The university also issued a stern warning against the creation, publication, and circulation of false and defamatory content, indicating that individuals involved in such activities would face prosecution.
