Kaohsiung Candidate Admits Social Media Error on District Size

Ko Chih-en, a candidate for Kaohsiung mayor representing the Kuomintang, faced criticism after her Facebook post incorrectly identified Sanmin District as the largest in the city. The opposing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) accused Ko of not understanding Kaohsiung and lacking progress over the past four years.

Ko Chih-en admitted that the error was made by her social media editor, explaining that the post intended to say 'second largest' but mistakenly wrote 'largest.' She acknowledged that Sanmin District was historically the largest before the merger of county and city, after which Fengshan District became the largest. Ko promised to be more careful and precise with her wording in the future.

"The post was a mistake by the editor," Ko stated. "We originally meant to write 'second largest' but wrote 'largest.' Sanmin District used to be the largest district in Kaohsiung City, but after the county-city merger, it became the second largest. This was simply a mistake, and we will be more cautious and precise with our language going forward."

Despite admitting the error, Ko Chih-en also pointed out a separate incident where DPP candidates allegedly misused a police emblem, mistakenly displaying a People's Liberation Army police emblem in their campaign materials. She questioned why those candidates had not apologized after quietly retracting the posts.

DPP mayoral candidate Lai Jui-lung advised Ko and her team to "be more serious." The controversy highlights the scrutiny candidates face regarding their knowledge of local geography and their campaign's attention to detail.
