Kaohsiung Candidate Inspects Flood Defenses Amid Downpour

Amidst heavy rains causing flooding in various parts of Kaohsiung, Democratic Progressive Party mayoral candidate Lai Jui-lung conducted an inspection of the city's flood control infrastructure. His tour included visits to pumping stations and detention ponds to assess their operational status.

Lai visited the Qianzhen pumping station early in the morning, followed by the Wujiabei detention pond and Tantou area in Gangshan District. He highlighted that recent drainage improvements and the detention pond's capacity have significantly reduced waterlogging in areas like Gangshan's Jiaxing and Jiafeng villages, demonstrating the effectiveness of solid infrastructure against extreme weather.

Later, Lai joined Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai to inspect the Xiwai branch diversion box culvert in Hunei District. This facility is critical for managing floodwaters, and Lai confirmed its smooth operation in diverting water, thereby alleviating drainage pressure during downpours.

Lai reminded residents to remain cautious of road conditions and personal safety as the heavy rain is expected to continue.
