Kaohsiung hosts international street dance competition with record prize money

Kaohsiung is set to host the "2026 Xiong Zheng Wu Dou International Street Dance Competition," a major event that significantly elevates the local street dance scene by integrating the prestigious "Battle of the Year" (BOTY) brand.

Organized by the Kaohsiung City Youth Bureau, the competition boasts a record prize pool of NT$820,000. This year marks a significant international collaboration, as BOTY, a globally recognized street dance competition originating from Germany, will hold its Taiwan qualifiers in Kaohsiung for the first time. Youth Bureau Director Lin Kai-hsuan highlighted that since its inception in 2021, "Xiong Zheng Wu Dou" has become the largest youth street dance event in southern Taiwan.

The competition has expanded from a single day to two days, featuring a diverse range of dance styles including Hip Hop, Popping, Locking, and Waacking. The finals are scheduled for August 15-16 at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center. August 15 will host the "BOTY Breaking" competition, while August 16 will feature the "Choreography Open Competition" and the "1 ON 1 Open Styles Battle."

Registration details vary for different events. The Choreography Open Competition, divided into student and adult categories, requires online video submissions with entries closing July 12. Top competitions like the "BOTY Taiwan Crew Breaking Battle" and "BOTY Taiwan 1 ON 1 Breaking Battle" have registration deadlines of August 9. Notably, the "BOTY Taiwan Crew Breaking Battle" champion team will earn direct qualification for the 2027 BOTY World Finals in Germany, with teams comprising 8 to 15 dancers of any age or gender.

This year, for the first time, we are integrating international resources, not only introducing 'Germany BOTY,' the highest hall in the hearts of all B-boys, but also comprehensively covering diverse dance styles such as Hip Hop, Popping, Locking, and Waacking in the competition system.
