Kaohsiung Mazda U-turn Collision with Volvo Injures Four

A collision occurred late Tuesday night in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, when a black Mazda sedan attempted a U-turn on Guotai Road and collided with an oncoming Volvo.

The accident happened around 9:43 p.m. in the Fengshan District. The 44-year-old female driver of the Mazda was traveling northbound in the inner lane when she initiated a U-turn. Her vehicle's rear right side then struck the front of the Volvo, which was traveling southbound in the same lane, driven by a 28-year-old male.

Four individuals sustained injuries in the crash: the drivers of both vehicles and two passengers in the Mazda. They were transported to Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and the Armed Forces General Hospital Kaohsiung, respectively. All four were conscious and their injuries were not life-threatening.

Police administered breathalyzer tests to both drivers, which showed zero blood alcohol content. Preliminary investigations suggest the accident was caused by the Mazda driver failing to observe oncoming traffic before making the U-turn. The detailed cause remains under investigation by the traffic division. Police reminded drivers to exercise caution and ensure it is safe before turning or making U-turns at intersections.
