Kaohsiung's Walled Village Carnival Unveils New Venues, Offers Stamp Rally for Market Exploration

Kaohsiung is set to host its annual Walled Village Carnival from September 26 to October 11, 2026, transforming historical military communities into vibrant cultural hubs. This year's event, themed 'Transformation and Rebirth,' will uniquely span the Mid-Autumn Festival, Teachers' Day, and National Day holidays, offering a continuous three-week celebration.

The carnival aims to deepen public engagement with Kaohsiung's unique heritage, which boasts Taiwan's most extensive collection of preserved military village cultural resources. The event will connect four key villages: Fengshan's Huangpu Village, Gangshan's Xingcun and Leyun Villages, and Zuoying's Jianye Village. These locations will host a variety of activities, including fantasy markets, folk song concerts, and interactive stamp rally missions, encouraging visitors to explore the distinct charms of each area.

Fengshan's Huangpu Village will launch the festivities on September 26-27, embracing the Mid-Autumn Festival with a 'Walled Village Planet' theme. The area will feature giant moon and rabbit lanterns, live performances by artists like Chen Ming-chang and the Sheng Xiang Band, and a fire dance troupe, complemented by a starlight market and guided tours.

Gangshan's Xingcun Village will take center stage on October 3-4 with 'AWAKE Xingcun,' marking the grand reopening of the Xingcun Cultural Landscape Park after four years of restoration. This segment will include a special opening drama and a folk song concert.

Concluding the carnival on October 10-11, Zuoying's Jianye Village will present 'Old-fashioned Walled Village Life,' featuring popular singers such as Li Yi-jun and Lin Lung-hsuan, alongside a vintage clothing market. The city government's commitment to preserving and revitalizing these historical sites, by integrating new businesses like restaurants and studios, is evident in this multi-faceted event.
