Kaohsiung Traffic Safety Festival Draws 2,000 Participants in Taiwan First

About 2,000 people joined Kaohsiung’s first Traffic Safety Festival, where concerts and interactive games turned motorcycle safety lessons into a student-focused public event.

The Highway Bureau and Kaohsiung City Government held the event at the Shaqian Wharf in the Pier-2 Art Center as part of Traffic Safety Month. Organizers centered the festival on three messages: do not ride without a license, yield at intersections and stay away from large vehicles.

Government figures show that more than 1,700 people die each year while riding motorcycles, with people aged 18 to 24 accounting for the largest share at 11.64 percent. The organizers used quizzes and interactive challenges to teach students about road signs, right of way and defensive driving.

Companies and organizations including the Special Compensation Fund, Hon Hai? and Uber and Uber Eats also took part in the public-private campaign. The article says Hon Hai? presented defensive driving, traffic signs, regulations and anti-fraud information through games, while Uber and Uber Eats promoted safe driving and avoiding speeding.

The program included performances by DJ Yaojiao, Good Band and punk group Papun Band. A free motorcycle inspection area checked tires, lights, brakes and lubricating oil. The Highway Bureau also opened an online lottery for regular motorcycle users, with prizes worth more than NT$2 million, including motorcycles and an iPhone 17.
