Karachi court acquits driver in drug case linked to 2024 Karsaz crash that killed two

A Karachi court acquitted Natasha Danish on Friday in a drug case connected to the Karsaz road crash that killed a father and daughter in August 2024.

Judicial Magistrate East ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against Danish. Her lawyer, Fawad Ali Khichi, told reporters that chemical examinations and blood tests found no traces of methamphetamine, also known as crystal meth. He alleged that police had tampered with samples taken from Danish and that the investigating officer had hidden the blood-test report.

The case followed the Aug. 19, 2024, crash on Karsaz Road. A speeding Toyota Land Cruiser driven by Danish struck three motorcycles and another car, killing 60-year-old Imran Arif and his 22-year-old daughter, Amna, and injuring three other people. Police arrested Danish at the scene and initially charged her in the deaths.

A separate drug case was filed after a medical report, requested by the victims’ counsel, reportedly said Danish was under the influence of crystal meth while driving. The case was registered under Section 11 of Pakistan’s Prohibition (Enforcement of Hadd) Order of 1979.

Danish was acquitted in the murder case in October 2024 after the parties reached a compromise. In May 2025, a magistrate rejected her plea for acquittal in the drug case and scheduled her indictment. She later obtained bail from the Sindh High Court. The Karachi police had filed a charge sheet before that hearing.
