Karina Milei tours Buenos Aires with allies, signaling political ambition

Karina Milei, Argentina's Secretary General of the Presidency and sister to President Javier Milei, is increasingly signaling her intention to enter the political arena in Buenos Aires. She recently led a tour of the city's Belgrano neighborhood alongside Diego Santilli, a prominent figure, and legislator Pilar Ramírez, who leads the La Libertad Avanza (LLA) party in the capital.

This public appearance underscores Milei's ambition to challenge the PRO party, which has governed Buenos Aires for two decades. The tour focused on Vía Viva, a commercial and urban development project situated beneath the Mitre Viaduct. Milei, accompanied by Ramírez and Santilli, visited the second phase of the project, which features offerings geared towards the premium automotive sector and various dining options.

With the possibility of an alliance with the PRO party seemingly diminished, Milei is concentrating on strengthening LLA's presence in this crucial district. The party achieved significant success in the city during the previous year's elections. In the May 2025 Buenos Aires elections, LLA surpassed the PRO, securing 30.7% of the vote compared to the PRO's 16.2%. In the legislative elections that followed in October, LLA and PRO collaborated to achieve a combined victory exceeding 40% of the vote.

Karina Milei is actively working to establish a candidacy that could potentially unseat Jorge Macri, the current head of the City government. Initially, former cabinet chief Manuel Adorni was considered the leading candidate for mayor. However, an investigation into alleged illicit enrichment led to Adorni's withdrawal from the race and his subsequent resignation from his national cabinet position.

Following Adorni's withdrawal, Patricia Bullrich, who led the legislative election list in October, emerged as a potential candidate for the ruling party. However, reported disagreements between Bullrich and Karina Milei have reportedly cooled this possibility. For now, the President's sister is focused on the Buenos Aires campaign. Future tours may include Security Minister Alejandra Monteoliva and Capital Humano Minister Sandra Pettovello, always in support of Pilar Ramírez.
