Karnataka cabinet expansion likely this week; Hariprasad considered for induction

The Karnataka cabinet is poised for an expansion this week, with Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President BK Hariprasad expected to travel to New Delhi for consultations. This move comes more than a month after Shivakumar assumed office, leaving several ministerial berths vacant and intensifying lobbying efforts among legislators and senior party figures.

Sources indicate the party leadership aims to finalize the expansion before the next Assembly session. A key objective is to ensure adequate representation for all regions and major communities within the state. The Congress high command is focused on preventing discontent within the legislature party while achieving this balance.

BK Hariprasad has emerged as a prominent candidate for a cabinet position. Siddaramaiah has reportedly backed his induction and proposed him as the Leader of the House in the Legislative Council. There is a sentiment within the leadership that Hariprasad's experience could be valuable in government, even as he continues to strengthen the party organization.

There is a view within the leadership that Hariprasad’s experience should be utilised in the government while he continues to strengthen the organisation. Also there is proposal to ensure he is part of the Legislative Council as the party and government’s face in the upper house.

If Hariprasad is not included in the cabinet, Urban Development Minister Dr. Yathindra is being considered for the Legislative Council floor leader role. Meanwhile, MLAs Ashok Pattan, AS Ponnanna, KN Rajanna, and MLC M R Seetharam are among those actively seeking cabinet berths. Leaders like Laxmi Hebbalkar, CS Appaji Nadagouda, Srinivas Mane, and Gaviappa have also reached out to the central leadership.
