Kasese Police Arrest Nine Suspects in Crime Crackdown

Police in Kasese Municipality have apprehended nine individuals suspected of involvement in criminal activities, including phone snatching, burglaries, and theft. The arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation conducted Monday evening in the Acholi Quarters area.

The suspects arrested are Derrick Muhindo, 18; Lindi Muhindo, 17; Wilson Mumbere, 25; Silver Baluku, 37; and Arnold Amanyire, 26, all residents of Nyamwamba West. Others are Gaste Masereka, 20, and Kiiza Karukasi, 20, both of Kyondo Cell, Scheme Ward; Joel Mumbere, 16, also of Kyondo Cell; and Godwin Bwambale, 18, of Kizungu Cell, all in Nyamwamba Division.

The operation, led by the Kasese District Police Commander, targeted gangs that have been reportedly terrorizing residents. Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Elly Maate confirmed the arrests and stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the municipality.

Those arrested include Derrick Muhindo, 18; Lindi Muhindo, 17; Wilson Mumbere, 25; Silver Baluku, 37; Arnold Amanyire, 26; Gaste Masereka, 20; Kiiza Karukasi, 20; Joel Mumbere, 16; and Godwin Bwambale, 18. Police also recovered a significant quantity of suspected stolen property, including three television sets, two woofer sets, two amplified speakers, an extracted window, approximately 40 iron sheets, six television remote controls, an amplifier, a misting machine, a weighing scale, and two laptops.

The suspects have been charged on holding charges of possession of narcotic drugs and possession of suspected stolen property pending further screening and investigations.
