Kathmandu Organizes Tangled Overhead Utility Cables

Efforts are underway in Kathmandu to untangle the chaotic web of overhead utility cables that mar the city's appearance and pose safety risks. Internet and other service providers are now clearing and reorganizing the disorderly wires that hang haphazardly from electricity poles.

The government has directed concerned agencies and providers to properly manage the extensive network of internet, telephone, and television cables. Officials highlighted that the tangled wires not only detract from the city's visual appeal but also significantly increase the risk of accidents.

Currently, service providers are focusing on organizing the overhead cables along the Kalimati–Kalanki road corridor. The initial phase includes the removal of unused cables. This reorganization effort will extend to six major routes within the Kathmandu Valley: Tripureshwor–Kalimati–Kalanki, Jadibuti–Pepsicola, Tripureshwor–Lazimpat, Samakhushi–Town Planning–Gongabu, the Kirtipur area, and Old Baneshwor–Gaushala–Chabahil. Work is progressing rapidly on these fronts.
