Kathmandu Valley launches mobile app for public transport tracking

Passengers in Kathmandu Valley can now track public vehicles with the launch of the new KTM Public Transport mobile application. The app aims to simplify travel by allowing users to monitor the location of public buses and estimate their arrival times.

Sunita Dangol, acting mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and chairperson of the Federal Capital Urban Area Public Transport Council, officially launched the application. Currently, the system provides information on about 1,200 public vehicles equipped with GPS technology. The council plans to increase the number of tracked vehicles to cover a wider network.

Dangol emphasized the need for more accessible and convenient public transport, advocating for expanded night services and earlier morning operations to accommodate students. She also stressed that public transport is a shared issue requiring coordination among municipalities. The council has approved further initiatives, including the designation of bus stops, introduction of night bus services, installation of GPS information systems at major hubs, and the development of a legal framework for cashless payment systems.
