Katsina Moves to Plug Financial Leakages, Strengthen TSA Operations

The Katsina State Government is actively working to close financial loopholes and improve the effectiveness of its Treasury Single Account (TSA) system. Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Bello Hussaini Kagara, announced these moves at a workshop for accountants and financial officers.

The training aimed to bolster the capacity of financial personnel, pinpoint operational weaknesses, and boost the efficiency and transparency of the state's financial management. Kagara emphasized the need for officers to scrutinize payment processes, checks and balances, appropriations, and the handling of payment vouchers, as weaknesses in these areas could compromise the TSA system's integrity.

Previous assessments revealed funds being transferred to incorrect accounts, highlighting the necessity of identifying and rectifying such loopholes to protect public funds. Kagara urged participants to identify challenges affecting TSA operations and propose practical recommendations for improvement. He assured them that their suggestions would be seriously considered by the government.

The commissioner also stressed the importance of ethical competence, adherence to procedures, self-reliance, and a willingness to seek clarification among financial officers. He expects the acquired knowledge to translate into improved performance and greater accountability in their duties. The state government remains committed to periodic training to keep its financial officers updated on public financial management developments.
