Kazakhstan braces for storms: Snow, rain, and strong winds forecast

Kazakhstan is facing a day of turbulent weather as forecasters have issued widespread warnings for Thursday, August 27. Across the nation, residents are advised to prepare for a volatile mix of precipitation and strong winds.

The western, northern, and southern parts of Akmola Region are particularly vulnerable, with expectations of rain, thunderstorms, hail, squalls, and dust storms. Winds are predicted to gust up to 15–20 meters per second, potentially reaching 25 meters per second in some areas. Similar conditions, including rain and thunderstorms with strong winds, are forecast for Kokshetau.

Further complicating the weather picture, northern East Kazakhstan Region anticipates rain and snow, while eastern and mountainous areas may see mixed precipitation. Fog is also a possibility in northern and eastern areas during the night and morning. Despite the incoming storms, high and extreme fire danger warnings persist in many central, northeastern, and southern regions, highlighting a continued risk of wildfires.

Other regions, including Aktobe, Almaty, Atyrau, Zhambyl, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay, Kyzylorda, and Mangystau, are also under weather advisories. These warnings detail varying degrees of rain, thunderstorms, fog, dust storms, and strong winds, underscoring a nationwide alert for hazardous conditions.
