Kazakhstan warned of frost, storms and extreme fire danger on summer’s final day

Kazakhstan’s final day of summer is forecast to bring a sharp mix of weather, from thunderstorms and hail to ground frost and intense heat.

Almaty is expected to see brief afternoon rain and thunderstorms, with winds shifting from the southeast to the northwest. Gusts could reach 15 meters per second in the city and 18 to 23 meters per second in the Ile-Alatau mountains, including the Medeu and Bostandyk districts.

The Almaty Region faces a broader combination of hazards. Forecasters expect rain, thunderstorms, dust storms and winds of up to 18 to 23 meters per second. Daytime temperatures could reach 35 degrees Celsius, while Konaev could see 33 to 35 degrees. Extreme fire danger remains in the central, western and eastern parts of the region.

Elsewhere, Kokshetau in Akmola Region could record ground frost of 2 degrees Celsius overnight. Shymkent faces northeasterly winds gusting at 15 to 20 meters per second and an extreme fire hazard. Fog is expected in parts of Aktobe and West Kazakhstan, while Mangystau Region could see rain, thunderstorms and strong winds. High or extreme fire danger remains active across all of those areas.
