Kazakhstan wins historic gold at World Judo Championships

Kazakhstan has achieved a landmark victory at the World Judo Championships, clinching gold in the mixed team event by defeating Brazil 4:3. Iyanat Zhubatkan secured the decisive win in the under-48 kg category, contributing to a historic moment for Kazakh judo. This triumph marks the first time the nation's judokas have secured a team gold at a World Championship, regardless of age group.

Throughout the tournament, Kazakhstan demonstrated its strength by overcoming formidable opponents including Bulgaria, Japan, and Uzbekistan en route to the final. The winning lineup for the mixed team event featured a strong contingent of athletes: Gabit Rassulkhan (under 60 kg), Inzhu Zhumadan (under 63 kg), Yerken Bekali (under 81 kg), Togzhan Tolebay (over 63 kg), Adilzhan Zhaudinov (over 81 kg), and Iyanat Zhubatkan (under 48 kg).

The mixed team gold medal capped an exceptionally successful championship for the national team. At the 2026 Cadet World Judo Championships, Kazakhstan's athletes amassed a total of 11 medals, including four gold, three silver, and four bronze. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports reported that the boys' team achieved first place in the overall standings, with the girls' team securing a commendable second place, highlighting a robust performance across junior categories.
