Kebbi Govt Warns Media Against Falsehoods, Advocates Responsible Journalism

The Kebbi State Government has issued a warning to media organizations, urging them to be vigilant against politicians who may use mainstream and online platforms to disseminate false information aimed at undermining the administration's accomplishments. This caution was delivered during a statewide tour of media outlets by the Governor's Media Team in Birnin Kebbi.

The delegation, led by Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, also expressed Governor Nasir Idris's gratitude for the media's support. Zuru, representing the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed BK, praised the extensive coverage of government programs and projects, noting it has encouraged the administration's development efforts and positively impacted citizens' well-being.

Zuru alerted journalists and media managers to alleged efforts by "desperate, highly ambitious but hopeless politicians" to fabricate allegations against the state government. He claimed these individuals seek to use media platforms to make unfounded accusations to diminish the current administration's achievements. He further alleged that some politicians behind these alleged smear campaigns had previously held national positions but failed to achieve significant impact in their communities, instead accumulating wealth under investigation. Representatives from IMS Online Television and Skylight Television commended the administration's achievements and pledged to uphold journalistic ethics in their reporting. The media team stated the tour aimed to strengthen government-media collaboration for accurate information dissemination and developmental journalism in Kebbi State.
