Keelung Parking Lot Secures Registration, Must Add EV Spaces

The long-standing dispute over Keelung's Liuhe Parking Lot has been settled, with the city government issuing the facility's registration certificate. This resolves the uncertainty that led to fears of the lot's closure at the end of August.

The city government has mandated that the operator, Fushan Company, must establish electric vehicle parking spaces within one year, adhering to regulations set by the Ministry of Transportation. This requirement is part of the agreement that allows the parking lot to continue its operations.

Previously, the lot faced closure due to issues with the land lease and the registration certificate. Taiwan Fertilizer Company, the landowner, had initially decided not to renew the lease, citing the operator's failure to obtain the necessary certificate for the entire previous year. This led to a public outcry, prompting negotiations involving Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang and City Council Speaker Tung Tzu-wei.

Following mediation, Taiwan Fertilizer Company agreed to extend the lease, and the city government committed to issuing the certificate promptly. Fushan Company secured the land lease agreement on August 7, and the city's Department of Transportation approved the application shortly after, with the operator now needing to pay the required fees to officially receive the certificate.
