Keelung Public Housing Renewal Sees Major Breakthrough After Decades of Stagnation

Residents of Keelung's Anle Phase 1 public housing are one step closer to new homes as the urban renewal project for the Anle No. 6 Base enters its review phase. Buildings in the complex are nearly 50 years old and have suffered from issues like cracking walls and water leakage due to early precast construction methods and Keelung's damp climate.

The project, with Guangyu Construction as the developer, has successfully completed public exhibition and hearings. This marks a crucial step towards rebuilding the aging structures, which are situated on a 2,000-ping site. The renewal plan includes constructing two 24-story residential towers with underground levels, incorporating setbacks for open spaces, green walkways, and public facilities.

Keelung City's Urban Development Department highlighted this as the first public-private partnership urban renewal project in the city. The feedback gathered during the public exhibition will be addressed by the developer to inform the ongoing review process. If all proceeds smoothly, the urban renewal and rights conversion plans are expected to be approved in 2027, paving the way for construction permits and the start of the rebuilding process.
